Certain pre-determined pairings of NPCs will eventually get very close to each other and may end up getting married after asking your advice. Some of these couples will even have their own kittens that will run around the colony and you can befriend them!

There are three cutscenes for each potential cat pairing in the game. To trigger these cutscenes and progress toward their eventual marriage, you need to raise the cats’ friendship levels:

• Cutscene 1 requires 2 friendship stars
• Cutscene 2 requires 3 friendship stars
• Cutscene 3 requires 4 friendship stars

However, to get approached by one of the paired cats about marriage after reaching 4 stars – and seeing through all the cutscenes – you need more than just the minimum 800 friendship points (start of friendship 4). A buffer of about 100 extra points is required before they will approach you one day as you leave your den.

When a cat does ask about proposing to their potential mate, you can encourage or discourage it. Encouraging leads to marriage and locks that cat out of a future relationship with you in that save file (If you start a New Game+ file, all rival marriages and kittens will reset, giving you a chance to romance a cat from a pairing in that new game if you wish!). Discouraging prevents the marriage, and they will be available for you to date/marry them. They won’t ask again if you discourage it.

Kittens from these rival marriages are not born randomly either. They have set birth dates, which will be provided in the sections for each pairing.

Also, cutscenes can happen out of order! If, say, you were four stars with a pairing and hadn’t entered any areas where their events happen – you could get the third cutscene before the first!
