LIVE A LIVE: Caveman Crafting Guide (Prehistory Chapter)

A quick and simple guide to the gear system in the Prehistory chapter.

Caveman Crafting 101

One of the neat things in the Prehistory chapter is that pretty much all of the gear you get is crafted. And there’s nothing stopping you from making all the best stuff as soon as you have control of Pogo in the safe cave. All it costs is time.

The first recipe you get is free (Stick + Hard Rock = Stone Axe) but there’s two more very important combinations, since they lead to even more crafting materials.

Item 2

+ Hard Rock =

Stone Knife
+ Pelt =

And both Stone Knives and Leather Straps are used to get the best stuff.

Crafting ten items gets you the achievement Make Good Lots.

Caveman Procurement

All told you’ll need around a dozen or so of each item in order to get what you want, so where do you get them?

You’ve got three ways:

  1. Pick them up, either from stone drawers/shelves or from ? marks you sniff out.
  2. Loot from encounters
  3. The Caveman Game

The Caveman Game is the best way, though it becomes unavailable a third of the way through the chapter. It’s simple and intuitive but here’s a quick rundown of how it works for completions sake:

In the cave to the right of Pogo & Gori’s pad you’ll find a single caveman standing around some bedding.

Talk to them and the game starts. Pay attention to what they point at because that’s what you’re looking for.

Then a whole bunch more cavemen (and occasionally Gori) come into the room and dive into either haystack. Pick whichever one you think has what the first one pointed out and they’ll pile out to see how you did.

Lose and they laugh at Pogo.

Win and they give you a thumbs up, along with one of each basic crafting item (Stick, Bone, Hard Rock, Pelt, Horn, Fang & Tough Skins.)

And that’s pretty much it. Live a live!
