Nightwater: All Boons Guide

Boons are the quiet collectibles that tie every minigame hub together, and hunting them down is half the fun of exploring this world. Most players stumble across their first one by accident and then spend hours wondering how to reach the rest. This guide breaks down every boon in the game, where it hides, and the exact method for triggering it.

One mechanic deserves a warning before anything else, because it cost me far more time than I care to admit: pressing E once and moving on will not work for every boon. Several of them only activate when you hold the interact key for a few seconds. If a glowing marker or suspicious object refuses to respond to a tap, hold the button down and give it a moment.

Editor Warning: The single biggest mistake players make is a quick tap of the interact key. Always try a long hold on anything that looks even slightly out of place before walking away.

Here is the full list of boons, their locations, and the conditions you need to meet. The Editor Rating column reflects how much grind or precision each one demands — lower is friendlier, higher means buckle up.

Forest and Ruins Boons

The Dark Thicket hides two boons, but they behave very differently from each other. The first is a straightforward exploration reward; the second is a test of endurance.

Boon of Curiosity is the ideal starting point if this is your first hunt. Enter the Dark Thicket, move into the right area, and look behind the waterfall. That is the entire puzzle — no hold required, no prerequisites, just a keen eye for scenery that doubles as a hiding spot.

Boon of Tenacity lives in the same minigame but on the opposite side. Push into the left area and search the ruins. Here is the catch: the boon spawns randomly, and it can take a genuinely frustrating number of runs before it appears. There is no trick to force it — the only sensible approach is to check the ruins on every single attempt so you never accidentally skip it when it finally shows up.

Editor Warning: Do not assume the Boon of Tenacity is bugged if it fails to appear after ten or twenty runs. It is pure randomness. Keep checking each run and it will eventually spawn.

Oasis and Mine Boons

Three boons share an almost identical trigger: a purple glow that only responds to a held interact key. If you spot something that looks out of place, get close and hold E.

Boon of Growth sits in the Oasis, the minigame found in the desert. Head to the second shop area and look behind where the autoplanter sits. A small glowing purple arrow should be visible on the ground — step up to it and hold E.

Boon of Rage is tucked inside The Mine. Standing in the middle of the wall closest to the entry rope, scan about a third of the way down to find a purple glowing icon. Approach and hold E to claim it.

Boon of Reflection hides on the opposite side of the same minigame. Facing the wall on the left as you look out from where you spawn, look roughly two-thirds of the way down to spot another purple glowing icon. Hold E on it and this one is yours.

Boon of Accuracy — The Snow Minigame Challenge

This boon is the odd one out, because it demands a specific loadout and a bit of shooting skill rather than exploration. The minigame here is Fuel Shortage in the snowy region.

You must pick the hand cannon for this to be possible. Once inside, look out of bounds and you will see three yellow spheres positioned just out of reach. Your job is to shoot all three. They stay destroyed permanently once hit, so you can take as many attempts as you need without ever losing progress.

My recommendation: play a round or two first and pick up a range upgrade before seriously attempting this. The extra reach makes landing those shots dramatically easier, and destroying all three spheres rewards you with the boon.

Editor Warning: Do not start this challenge without the hand cannon selected. Without it, you cannot break the spheres no matter how accurate you are.

Boon of Speed — Hiding in Plain Sight

The Data Rush speedrun minigame guards a boon that rewards careful observation mid-run. The minigame itself lives in the industrial-themed hub, and you will want the speedrun route to make sense of the layout.

Enter Data Rush and progress to the second speedrun section. On the left-hand side you will spot two wall-runs positioned next to each other, with a moving platform opposite them. Ride that moving platform and look carefully between the two wall-runs — a partial platform pokes out of the wall itself. Dash or jump across onto it and you will phase straight through the wall to reach the boon.

The Music Puzzle — Strength, Luck, and Determination

Three boons are chained together by a single shared mechanic, and once you understand it, all three become quick to collect. Each one requires you to change the game’s background music before the altar will respond. The source of that change is the same for all three.

To trigger the music swap, travel to the desert biome and look behind one of the single-story houses. You will find a stack of boxes topped with a gramophone. Get close and hold E on the gramophone — it takes a few seconds — and the music will cut out and be replaced by a new track. This is your cue to race to the altar of your choice before the effect wears off.

Boon Altar Location Follow-Up
Boon of Strength Grass area, behind spawn Press E at the altar, complete the parkour, claim the “memory” at the end
Boon of Luck Desert area, inside a house Press E at the altar, complete the parkour, claim the “memory” at the end
Boon of Determination Industrial area, behind the 5 stacked shipping containers Press E at the altar, complete the parkour, claim the “memory” at the end

Once the new music is playing, each altar behaves the same way. Press E at the altar and you will be teleported into a short parkour section. The “memory” waiting at the end of that course is the boon itself. The Boon of Strength altar sits in the grass area behind spawn, the Boon of Luck altar is inside the house over in the desert, and the Boon of Determination altar hides behind the five stacked shipping containers in the industrial area.

Editor Warning: The music change is time-sensitive. If you dawdle on the way to an altar, the track may revert before you arrive, and the altar will not respond. Plan your fastest route between the gramophone and your target altar beforehand.

Pulling It All Together

If you are chasing a full collection, work through the easy exploration boons first — Curiosity, Growth, Rage, and Reflection — to build momentum. Then tackle the music puzzle trio as a single focused session, since they share setup. The Snow and Speedrun challenges round things out and reward a bit of mechanical skill. The wildcard is always the Ruins boon, so make a habit of checking it every run and it will eventually land in your collection.
