Space Hulk Deathwing Enhanced Edition: How to Fix Freezing Issue on Windows 10

A few pointers to mitigate/fix the freezes associated with SH:DW on Win10.

Compatibility Settings

Navigate to the executable in Space Hulk: Deathwing Directory. This will be inside your Steam Folder: “…\steamapps\common\Space Hulk Deathwing – Enhanced Edition”

Right-Click the Games .exe set the Compatibility Mode to Run for “Windows 7”. You can also tick “Disable Full Screen Optimisations” for slightly better in-game frame rate.

Apply and OK.

Processor Affinity

! This step will be required every time you launch SH:DW.

  • Open Space Hulk: Deathwing via Steam (if it isn’t already).
  • Open the Task Manager, Go to Details.
  • Sort by CPU and find “SpaceHulkGame-Win64-Shipping.exe”, Right Click and Set Affinity.

You will see a list of ticked CPU Cores starting from CPU 0 all of the way up to specific number corresponding with how many CPU Cores you have.

The untick the very last CPU Core and only the last CPU Core.

That’s it!

Your game will now be a mite more stable and less prone to freezing.

I found this information on an ancient reddit thread for Deathwing and have found it to be much more stable following it’s advice. The original post talks about disabling more cores, but I found just disabling the last one worked fine, your mileage may vary.

Thanks to [LongLive]Quebec for his great guide, all credit to his effort. you can also read the original guide from Steam Community. enjoy the game.
