While “First Contact” is mostly about analyzing strange radio signals from space and making contact with aliens, there is a subplot in which Matt can romance his fellow female colleagues. Both Dr. Brenda Green and Dr. Rosa Gomez can be romanced. This guide describes how to get the romance achievements of the game. This guide contains spoilers so proceed with caution!
Gaining affection with Dr. Rosa Gomez
1. The first opportunity should rise right after you make your first contact with the Umbari, and before analyzing the radio signals leading to the discovery of the Nindi or the Skurak. After making contact with the Umbari go to the Anthropology department and speak with Rosa. She’ll tell you, “Matt, it is fun to work with you at Mission Control.”
You’ll have two options for response :
A: “Rosa, I feel the same. We make a good team.”
B: “It can be fun, so long as you know your place and refrain from confusing me.”
If you choose A, you’ll gain her affection for this opportunity.
If you choose B, you’ll lose the chance to romance Rosa permanently.
If you successfully analyze a radio signal leading to the discovery of the Nindi or the Skurak before going to the Anthropology department you’ll also lose the chance to romance Rosa permanently. This is true even if you succeed in your second opportunity to gain her affection.
2. The second opportunity should rise when you return to Earth after visiting the Anugi home planet. After completing the debriefing in headquarters and before speaking with the Tuke, any visit back to headquarters should trigger a unique dialogue option with Rosa. Rosa will address the team members and say: “I believe we need to continue our talks, focusing on the Umbari, the Tuke, and the Yohun. There could be information we haven’t learned of yet.”.
You’ll have two options for response :
A: “Rosa this is a terrible idea, I’m tired with all the talking.”
B: “Rosa is right, we need to continue with our diplomatic efforts.”
If you choose B, you’ll gain her affection for this opportunity.
If you choose A, you’ll lose the chance to romance Rosa permanently.
If you speak with the Tuke and the Umbari before going back to headquarters you’ll also lose the chance to romance Rosa permanently. This is true even if you succeed in your first opportunity to gain her affection.
It is possible to pursue Rosa and Brenda at the same time. However, by the end of the game, you’ll need to choose one of them if you’ve gained the affections of both women on both occasions for each.

Gaining affection with Dr. Brenda Green

The first opportunity should arise after you’ve completed the successful analysis of both radio signals leading to the discovery of the Nindi and the Skurak and before receiving a riddle to solve from the Nindi. After having both signals analyzed, head to headquarters. This should trigger a unique dialogue option with Brena. Brenda will address General Harris and say: “Sir, maybe it’s time that the public should be aware of what we are doing.”
You’ll have two options for response :
A: “Brenda, are you out of your mind?! This will create chaos!”
B: “General, Brenda is right. We should let the public know what’s going on.”
If you choose B, you’ll gain her affection for this opportunity.
If you choose A, you’ll lose the chance to romance Brenda permanently.
Once you receive a riddle from the Nindi, this dialogue option will not be available and you’ll lose the chance to romance Brenda permanently. This is true even if you succeed in your second opportunity to gain her affection.
2. The second opportunity should arise after you receive a riddle to solve from the Nindi and before solving it. While thinking about how to solve the riddle head to the Astrobiology lab. Brenda will address you and say: “Matt, so good of you to come. I want to tell you that I enjoy working with you. You are the reason we are making all this progress.”
You’ll have two options for response :
A: “I made all of this progress despite the poor performance of this team.”
B: “Brenda, thank you for your help. I enjoy working with you too.”
If you choose B, you’ll gain her affection for this opportunity.
If you choose A, you’ll lose the chance to romance Breda permanently.
Once you’ve solved the Nindi riddle, this dialogue option will not be available and you’ll lose the chance to romance Brenda permanently. This is true even if you succeed in your first opportunity to gain her affection.
It is possible to pursue Rosa and Brenda at the same time. However, by the end of the game, you’ll need to choose one of them if you’ve gained the affections of both women on both occasions for each.

End Game Romance
After completing the second radio analysis mission onboard the space vessel you are appointed to, and after watching the space scene depicting its outcome, you’ll be at your quarters. Brenda should enter the room.
If you gained Brenda’s affection on both opportunities up to this point, you’ll have the chance to romance her. She’ll ask you a question, and regardless of your response, when she’s about to leave the room, you’ll have the option to ask her to stay awhile. Tell her you like her and when the dialog option “Move Forward” appears, select this option. Matt should approach Brenda triggering a romantic moment. Any different response will result in Brenda leaving the room and you’ll lose the chance to romance her permanently.
If you’ve gained the affections of both women on both occasions for each up to this point, Brenda will ask you about your relationship with Rosa. If you say you are interested in Rosa, Brenda will congratulate you, and you also lose the chance to romance Brenda permanently. If you tell Brenda that you and Rosa are just friends, you’ll have the chance to trigger a romantic moment as described above. This would also mean, that you will lose the chance to romance Rosa permanently.
